BISSELL Pet Foundation Partners With Greene County Humane Society To Bring Holiday Hope to Shelter Pets

The Greene County Humane Society in Linton joins 380+ shelters nationwide participating in the “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” reduced-fee adoption event

BISSELL Pet Foundation, a national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending pet homelessness, is bringing hope to the nation’s shelter pets this holiday season with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” adoption event Dec. 1 – 17. BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees of $50 or less per dog and $0 for cats during each nationwide event. This event will be hosted in more than 380 shelters in 43 states, including Greene County Humane Society.

  • Greene County Humane Society will participate Dec. 1-17, 2023, at the shelter, 1026 N 1375 W, Linton, IN 47441, offering fee-waived adoptions for cats and $50 for most dogs.

The event features Santa Claus and is open and free to the public to bring their animals for photos with Santa. The event will have cookie decorating and free hot chocolate.

“Our nation’s animal shelters need your help as they face an overcrowding crisis unlike anything we have experienced in more than a decade. The devastating increase in owner surrenders and stray intakes has left tens of thousands of deserving pets desperate to find a home,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “Our ‘Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope’ event is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in your community by saving a life and creating space to give another homeless pet a chance this holiday season.”

The Greene County Humane Society has participated in Bissell Empty The Shelters events since 2020 and has always had great success. Currently, the humane society is nearly at capacity and desperately needs adoptions before Christmas.

“Our partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation has been invaluable. Over the past 3 years, we have participated in numerous Empty The Shelter events and they have always been a great tool for us to remove a barrier to adoption for individuals and to get pets into permanent homes”. says Greene County Humane Society Board President Kegan Inman. “Our shelter has been bursting at its seams since earlier this year and there have been more animals in Greene County needing help than we had had the space to help. We truly hope that this event gets some long-term residents out of our shelter so that those animals can finally have a couch to sleep on and we can start 2024 with empty kennels to get back to helping homeless and unwanted animals.

BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty the Shelters” event is the largest funded adoption event in the country. This lifesaving event began in 2016 with a goal of encouraging more families to choose adoption. More than 204,000 pets have found loving homes since its inception. “Empty the Shelters” is BISSELL Pet Foundation’s largest program, partnering with 730 animal welfare organizations in 49 states and Canada to reduce adoption fees.

Pet adoption is a lifetime commitment, and not just for the holidays. BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Greene County Humane Society urge families to research the pet they are interested in adopting, as well as adoption requirements.
